Writing

  • Personal Consultations

Whether you are starting out as a writer, or more experienced, you may need another writer or ‘Ideal’ reader with whom to discuss your work. Renee offers a mentoring service, which consists of a face-to-face or Zoom consultation. Mentoring can be useful at any stage – early on to discuss ideas, mid-way through when you may need support and guidance, or after a first draft to discuss possibilities. It can include a short (up to 1,000 words) critical reading as part of a 1 hour consultation.

    Fee: $105 per hour

  • Chapter-by-chapter input

You can also ask for feedback on your chapters as you write them, if that is what you think will be most useful. Some people (like me) work better with deadlines and accountability! With an upfront payment for ten chapters, you can send your chapters as you write them to an agreed timetable.

The fee covers all on-page notes and individual guidance for ten units of writing of up to 3,000 words each. If there is significantly more words in the chapter it may be considered as one and a half chapters (4,500 words) or two chapters (6,000 words) and so on.

    Fee: $620

  • Writing - Manuscript Development

This service consists of comments and edits on the full manuscript, plus a written report on the overall writing style, voice, characterization and structure of the manuscript.

A structural manuscript development edit examines everything from the unfolding of ideas to writing style, voice, characterization and structure. There will be on-page editing for sentence, paragraph and chapter structure, with some editing for spelling, punctuation and grammar if requested. Whether you have a few chapters or a complete first draft, you can send your manuscript in for a manuscript development report. The service consists of comments and edits on the ms, plus a full written report. You can also book a mentor consultation, either face-to-face or zoom.

    Fee: $850

“I was lucky enough to have Renee read my young adult romance novel. I’m often hesitant with sharing my work but having someone who understands the craft of writing as well as Renee does was invaluable. Renee worked quickly to provide me with feedback that was thoughtful and constructive. She helped me turn my first draft into something I could be proud of. I have not only benefited from her feedback but also her support throughout my journey as a writer. I can’t recommend her enough.

I was very lucky to have Renee review two of my three memoirs. Her structural review, insights and fabulous ideas enabled me to take both memoirs to a whole new level. Renee is incredibly skilled and talented – I would recommend her to anyone!

There is a time in the development of a work when you can really benefit from having a sounding board, a respondent to your work, who can let you know whether your intentions for the writing are being realised. Or who might be able to read for a particular concern you have. And it is essential that the person you engage is not only an astute reader and a clear communicator but is someone who is sensitive to the vulnerability of the writer at this stage. Renee is all of these things.
